Maffra District Hospital is top priority
for new Liberal candidate
Urgent repairs and building upgrades are needed at Maffra District Hospital for the continued delivery of community health and aged care services to the local community, Liberal candidate for the Gippsland by-election, Rohan Fitzgerald, said today.
The high standard of care provided by the dedicated team of local health professionals is currently being undermined by the poor state of the building that houses the health and aged care services, said Rohan.
“The Maffra District Hospital has served the community well, but it must now be upgraded as a matter of priority,” said Rohan.
“The aged care facility is very old, and up to four residents can share the same ward and communal bathroom facilities.
“Whilst the standard of care provided by staff is excellent, the building just does not stack up against other aged care facilities in the region, like Wilson Lodge in Sale and Laurina Lodge in Heyfield,” said Rohan.
Major upgrades are critical to the ongoing delivery of health services in Maffra, said Rohan, and to the local families and the elderly who rely on this important health service to look after them in times of need.
“Having worked in the health services industry, I understand the value placed by communities on having access to a health service that will see them through the tough times in a functional, comfortable and healing environment,” said Rohan.
“I’ll be working hard to ensure that this project is made a priority for funding from the state and federal Labor governments, and that the high standard of care provided by staff is finally matched by the state of the hospital’s building.”
